Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for a Financial Controller at Catalyst Ventures in Kitchener, Ontario. As a vital member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of our investments across Software, Placemaking, and Hardware. Your expertise in general ledger and bookkeeping will be instrumental in our continued growth and success. Key responsibilities will include managing and maintaining accurate general ledger records, overseeing financial transactions, and collaborating closely with teams across all three divisions to ensure seamless financial operations.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
Maintain accurate financial records by establishing accounts, posting transactions, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements
Develop and implement accounting systems, including charts of accounts and bookkeeping policies and procedures
Manage subsidiary accounts through verification, allocation, and posting of transactions
Perform account reconciliations, including balancing subsidiary accounts and preparing trial balances
Organize and maintain historical financial records
Prepare comprehensive financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, including filing necessary reports and advising management on required actions
Assist in developing financial models for current investment companies and potential opportunities
Oversee internal controls for revenue receipts, costs, and budgets, monitoring actual expenditures for teams and the organization
Establish financial and operating benchmarks, creating budgets and implementing program monitoring and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual bases
Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
File HST and corporate tax returns with the CRA as required by law
Draft and generate year-end financial statements
Provide contract administration support, ensuring adherence to financial obligations and terms, and assist in overseeing contract-related financial processes
Support portfolio companies in financial management tasks as needed

Education, Experience, & Required Licensing
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
CPA is a major plus
3-8 years previous experience required
Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas

Position Overview
As part of our agile and versatile team, you'll tackle diverse challenges and drive innovation in our software development processes. We're seeking experienced developers who excel in problem-solving and are eager to contribute to our growing suite of products. While expertise in every technology we use isn't required, a strong foundation in React, NextJS, CSS and TypeScript is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Develop user-facing features and rich, responsive interfaces.
Build high-performance, interactive UIs with real-time updates, including WebSocket-driven data changes, collaborative whiteboarding, and video conferencing.
Implement local GraphQL resolvers and UI components.
Conduct UI unit and component testing and integrate UI test automation to maintain high-quality code.
Oversee code organization and maintainability to ensure a scalable and performant front-end architecture.
Establish and enforce UI development standards, ensuring consistent practices across projects.
Collaborate with backend teams and Product leads to align front-end deliverables with overall project goals.
Work within a small team, collaborating with your colleagues to ship impactful products.
